Rock Ballad of The Week: Amberian Dawn “My Only Star”

After a day turns into a night
I will light up my light in the sky
Don’t she’d a tear on the ground I once laid
Cause I’ll be here

From your tears I’ll make a crystal necklace
To surround my heart and my chest
I’ll be up here and walk by your side
Day and night

[Refrain:]
Look at me
Me here among the stars
Walking on milky way
Part of the eternity
Shining bright in the dark blue sky
Shining your love – my light
Waiting for you to shine by my side
Look, I am a star

Meet me in dreamland
Come, take my hand
I will guide your way
Don’t be afraid
Hold me in your arms never let go
And be my own

Just for tonight I’ll be in your dreams
Then I’ll exist only in star streams
Remember me when you look at the sky
As time goes by

[Refrain:]
Look at me
Me here among the stars
Walking on milky way
Part of the eternity
Shining bright in the dark blue sky
Shining your love – my light
Waiting for you to shine by my side
Look, I am a star

Amberian Dawn is a Finnish metal band, formed in 2006 by Tuomas Seppälä and Tommi Kuri. Their fifth album Re-Evolution (a re-recorded compilation with new singer) was released on KHY Suomen Musiikki & Encore Music in summer 2013. Their latest album Innuendo was released on October 23 of 2015 via Napalm Records.

Amberian Dawn classified themselves as “melodic, dramatic and powerful metal with female classical vocals” and ex-lead singer Heidi Parviainen has called their music “fast tempo, guitar driven metal with purely classical female vocals”,  while several other sources classify them as symphonic power metal, which the band has agreed sums it up, but also points out that there are many different styles that vary from song to song. In a September 2010 interview, Seppälä defines their music: “Amberian Dawn’s music is melodic metal, and the roots lie in the Metal and Rock music of the 70s and 80s and maybe a little bit of the ’90s. There are a lot of technical skills within the band, so everyone who’s not scared of serious guitar and keyboard shredding should listen to our music.

  1. What a shame I never heard of that band before! Such a great combination of metal and classical vocals! The lyrics and the whole composition is just WOW! A fantastic catch, Syl!

      1. Yes, fantastic!!! Thanks that you shared it. Her voice is beautiful! I basically love the combination of classic mixed with modern rhythm, like classic music in rock style or rock played by a huge orchestra!

      2. There have been some rock music artists that have played with an orchestra. Makes for an interesting version of their original songs.
