Death is no more than passing from one room into another. But there’s a difference for me, you know. Because in that other room I shall be able to see.
– Helen Keller
I regard any death as being notable. In the past couple of weeks, I became aware of three passings, a loved one from a dear friend in the WP community, the passing of Jeff Beck (guitarist and musician) and Lisa Marie Presley (singer, entertainer).
When we hear of celebrities passing away, sometimes there’s a reaction of surprise, maybe because that particular person was not in the spotlight as much, because of age, reason of death or simply hearing the name. The passing of well known entertainers can also cause us to listen to their music, watch their movies, search for any articles, quotes or clips regarding that person. Death has a way of bringing awareness to the value of time and life.
When death touches close to home and a relative, friend or loved one passes, it can bring a family closer together or in some cases split them apart. The one who has passed is remembered fondly, stories are shared, personal memories rise to the surface, we remember, we grieve and we don’t forget. Those we treasure, they live on within us even when we don’t think about them every single second. It only takes one thing to bring them to mind. It could be something they enjoyed, a song, a book, a particular food, etc. Physically gone but never forgotten.
Life is a mystery
Tomorrow is a room
The door closed, waiting to be opened
A baby is born
A life passes on
No one knows their final hour
But we do not live in dread of death
We live in celebration of life
Life by the drop, by the spoonful
I’ve witnessed loved ones leave
To this day for some I grieve
I know someday I will cross death’s line
But for today, death is a room
The door closed, yet to be opened
Today we celebrate life
