#ThoughtfulThursday: Enlightenment

For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.

#MondayThoughts: Trial By Fire

There are times when you are thrown into a situation and you learn as you go.

gif credit: Giphy

I can’t unfold tomorrow

Because I have to focus on today

In the middle of a pressure situation

I maintain my center of grace

Doing what I can with what I have

Little help at hand so my hands carry double

Thrown in unexpected situations

We must get in the trenches and fight through

No resentment, no anger, no bitterness

Just pump the heart with faith, hope and love

And do what needs to be done

#MondayThought: No Shame

We cannot grow when we are in shame, and we can’t use shame to change ourselves or others.

– Brené Brown

First and foremost, do not be ashamed of you. Do not allow this wonderful creation you are to be buried under false notions, beliefs or other’s judgemental, preconceived assumptions of you.

Please, do not shame yourself by trying to live up to someone’s standard of who you should be and how you should live. Do not shame yourself by comparing yourself to John and Jane Doe and what they are accomplishing in their life.

Accept you, embrace you, love you, be you. Allow yourself to grow and blossom into who you were meant to be. There should never be any shame in being yourself, so do not be ashamed of being you.

Stay inspired and keep rising.

#ThoughtfulThursday: Growth Is Immiment

“In life, growth is imminent. And, growth without change, is unthinkable. And, to make the unthinkable thinkable, new roads need to be carved out by way of old ones. The old stands tall and firm and befriends the new to fall into place, with refined maturity and greater understanding and cultured admiration. It’s simply pure Magic.”

#MondayThoughts: Encouraged Over Discouraged

Sometimes it feels like life has buried us in the dirt, when in reality we’ve been planted with an opportunity to grow.

– Tina Hallis

Life is filled with wonder, amazement, exciting and beautiful things and experiences. It is also splashed with hardships, unevenness, confusion and discouragement. We all seek to live out the best life possible while we are here. There are times when everything seems to be going great and smooth, you feel on top of things, on top of the world.

In our pursuing of living a joyful, decent and good life, we are bound to get tripped up by something that discourages us and practically throws us off balance. Whether it be personally, professionally or deep inside our soul, there are things we experience which make us question ourselves, our direction, hopes, faith, beliefs and convictions.

When that happens, what do you do? Give up? Crawl under the nearest rock? Stay in bed under the sheets? I emphatically say NO to all of these and other negative reactions! We can accept that life is not always great, You might not always be upbeat, positive and happy. Heck, you might not even see the brighter side of what you are going through and experiencing.

When we choose to stay down, we are in reality confusing wisdom with cowardice. When we choose to stand back up, we are using wisdom to overcome cowardice.

– Craig D. Lounsbrough

I have faced some very tough and gut wrenching times in my life. I have had moments of feeling isolated and broken.

I did not give up. No, I did not give up.

I believe with all my being that despite how discouraging it can be in the moment or how hopeless a situation might appear, there is a definite brighter outcome if we choose to stay encouraged and press on through. I’m not saying it is easy to do so and in fact may be darn right intimidating but it is doable. Just as it is possible to hold on to discouragement, it also possible to grasp encouragement and hold it tight to the chest, letting in that seed that all is possible.

Believe it and receive it. Act on it. You are the seed from which countless, beautiful things will grow. Let encouragement outweigh discouragement.

Stay inspired and keep rising.

Monday Thoughts – Pressing The Override Button

The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms. – Thich Nhat Hanh

Negative thoughts will creep in at every opportunity. In every situation we face, negativity is waiting in the shadows to throw you off and keep you off balance.

We know the mind is a powerful force. It is always active at all times. Absorbing everything around us, deciphering, decoding, rationalizing and basically trying to put things into perspective. The mind has that fail safe component that attempts to keep us from harm, even when the situation doesn’t call for it. Sometimes the negativity that creeps up is a byproduct of this fail safe system.

Your mind at work

When negativity starts to creep up on you, it’s time to hit that override button. Do not dwell on all that is wrong, why it could go wrong, why it’s not the way you want, etc. We have to literally spoon feed our brain good thoughts. If not, it is so easy to fall into the valley of hopelessness (I’ve passed by there but never stopped). We are not looking at life through naive glasses. Things happen in life, personally and outside that bring us down and we do not need to fake it that all is good.

We feel what we feel moment to moment to moment. Happiness, sadness, indifference. We can be nonchalant as if nothing bothers us but we all feel something, we are not robots. You have a choice in how you think about things. When it comes to negative thoughts, try the product replacement theory and replace those negative thoughts with good, healthier ones. Build upon this and you will have a solid mental foundation and that fail safe component will rarely be used.

Staking A Claim

The day breaks

The sun claims a stake to this day

Commanding attention

As it takes control of the sky

I shade my eyes while watching the clouds scatter

There is idle chatter among the tall grass

I mind my own business and admire the boldness of the sun

Harnessing its warmth, I follow its cue

Taking control of the day

I live with a great boldness for life

Staking my claim

Monday Motivation: Leaving The Nest

“God gives every bird his worm but he does not throw it in the nest.” – P D James

We are born and raised, educated and given the tools to live life.  We reach a certain age and we strike out on our own to explore and experience life. We leave the nest for the first time.

As we go through life, we get a job, meet people, experience meaningful relationships, possibly start a family of our own and we try and do our best to live as fully as what we believe life is to us individually.  We become settled in the nest we built on our own away from our parents. How did we build this nest? Did we wait for everything to be handed to us or did we have to fly about and find the materials to build our nest?

We have the physical nest, the house or apartment we live. Then there is the mental nest, where our thoughts live and where we make the decisions that affect our life experiences. In order to experience life outside the home we have to leave the house and see what is outside. In order to have fulfilling life experiences we have to leave the comforts of our mental nest where those “settled for” thoughts keep you stationary.  If you are happy where you are in life, that is perfectly fine. Everyone’s happiness is based on a variety of reasons. Now, if you are not happy with where you are in life, you do not have to settle for being unhappy and going through the motions of life stuck in your nest.

When we want to have change in our lives, we have to get up, leave the nest and do those things that bring about the change we hope for. The change we want will not come knocking on the door, we have to go knocking on the door of change until it answers. The nest of the mind may give you comforting and secure cautious thoughts but we have to be able to overcome the fears of leaving the nest in order to make a change in our life, if we desire change.  Again, if you are happy and  feel as though you are living a fulfilling life, then continue on and stay blessed.

Negative thoughts can keep you permanently grounded, sitting and waiting, afraid to leave your nest. Whatever goals, dreams and or changes you hope for, need for you to take that first step out and spread those wings. They only grow stronger the more you use them.
